REHEARSAL PHASE

The Rehearsal Phase should be considered as building and establishing solid habits to ensure successful transition into independent living and being a functioning member of society.

Objective: Support the veteran in actively engaging with daily routines, services, and community life. practicing new behaviors, routines, and interactions in a supportive environment before full independence. This phase allows them to practice the structure, habits, and interactions essential for long-term independence.

Core Activities:

  1. Routine Establishment

    1. Create and follow a weekly schedule (including appointments, chores, wellness activities)

    2. Attend regular mental health sessions, medical follow-ups, and case management meetings

    3. Begin participation in group therapy or support circles

    4. Encourage physical fitness, improved nutrition, and healthy life choices

  2. Behavioral Practice

    1. Reinforce adherence to community standards (punctuality, respect, accountability)

    2. Monitor and coach conflict resolution, emotional regulation, and interpersonal interactions

  3. Orientation Deepening

    1. Continue onboarding into program rules, expectations, and resources

    2. Encourage questions and feedback as the veteran navigates their environment

  4. Relationship Building

    1. Foster peer relationships through shared activities and meals

    2. Encourage participation in peer mentorship or buddy systems

  5. Initial Skills Engagement

    1. Begin attending classes or workshops (e.g., financial literacy, job readiness, coping strategies)

    2. Enrollment in community college or adult education programs

    3. Introduce community service or light volunteer work if appropriate

The Rehearsal Phase empowers veterans to put structure into action. Through active participation in a safe and supportive setting, veterans build confidence, discipline, and readiness for life beyond the program.
