Before coming to Five STAR Veterans Center, I had hit rock bottom. I'd been evicted, lost two vehicles to traffic collisions, and felt like I was just running out my life clock. That's when a VA social worker recommended Five STAR to me.
I arrived not knowing what to expect, but the entire staff was so welcoming. I met the Operations Manager upon ringing the doorbell, whose warmth and kindness did so much to help put my mind at ease. From there I met with the Lead Case Manager which made my intake as smooth and stress-free as could be.
Once I got situated within the facility, the entire staff got the right to work to assist me with my concerns about my disability and education benefits as a veteran, respectively. The Chef and Kitchen staff were incredibly accommodating with my allergies, and the mental health counselor was tremendous with helping me make some breakthroughs with my mental health.
Both the professional knowledge and comforting friendliness displayed by everyone was exceptional!
After finishing nearly six months in the program, I am now living comfortably and responsibly on my own, with a much brighter outlook on life. I consider the folks working over at Five STAR Veterans Center to be my found family. My success is their success - and every day, I wake up grateful for what they've given me:
Hope
